7 Spiritual Movies Worth Watching

Updated: May 28, 2021

Sometimes just watching a spiritual movie can inspire you to follow your path and motivate you to continue your practice with additional zeal. Here is a list of 7 movies that energize me to meditate even more whenever I watch them.

In case the given link does not work anymore, please search directly in Youtube. Links keep on shifting.

1. Benares

Set in the Holy city of Benares, it is a mystical love story that holds romance and man's search for the highest together in a symbiotic frame. It gives you a glimpse of the Indian philosophy with references to Upanishads, Kabir, Tulsidas, Buddha along with parallel theory and findings of quantum physics. For the initiated it is a further reinforcement of the message while to the uninitiated it could be an enigma they would like to explore. Most profound dialogue: "Jo saral hai wohi satya hai!" Meaning whatever is simple is the truth. Watch it here:

2. Ek Cheez Milegi Wonderful

How I wish the makers of this film had chosen a better title and marketed it more! It is a brilliantly conceived and executed film with an effort to explain the mystery of spirituality in as simple manner as possible. Keeping in mind different kinds of audiences they have tried to explain the concept through various examples and weaved the story through a family drama and adventure that doesn't make it heavy yet keeps your thinking hats on. I suggest watching it at least twice to get the message. Watch it here:

3. Peaceful Warrior

It is another beautiful movie based on true events that has a very strong spiritual message! A world-champion gymnast wanting to make his mark in Olympics has this chance encounter with a mystery man who teaches him 'how to stay in the moment' is all that he needs to learn to achieve his goal. A little magic, a little philosophy and some really sound spiritual messages interspersed with the stress and energy of preparing for Olympics make it a delight to view. Watch it here:

4. What the Bleep Do We Know

An excellent explanation of quantum physics through a movie cum documentary that gives you goosebumps as you realise the simplicity yet profundity of certain acts we commit throughout the day unconsciously and that impact everything around us. It stretches your thinking and opens a world of infinite possibilities. Watch it here:

5. Samsara

It is a spiritual journey set in the breathtaking landscapes of Leh & Ladakh, Himalayas. Giving you a glimpse into the world of the lamas and their practices, it is the quest of a man to achieve enlightenment. It also brings in the strong force of temptation and worldly desires that come in the way. Watch it here:

6. Spiritual Reality - The Journey Within (Power of Meditation) [Full Movie]

This is an enlightening movie cum documentary on meditation and meditative experiences and I keep watching it time and again because it is so powerful and inspiring. In this movie Spiritual truths have been dealt with in a profound manner and given a uniquely stunning visual form by using outstanding computer graphics. As claimed by the makers of this film, 'Spiritual Reality' is based on two decades of extensive research and real life experiences of Spiritual Masters. Watch it here:

7. The Life Of Zen Master Dogen

I only recently discovered this movie and found it very beautiful. A biopic, it depicts the journey of Zen Master Dogen from his early childhood in China to his search for a Master in Japan, his journey towards enlightenment and further his struggles as an enlightened Master when teaching in a world full of dogmatism. Specially poignant are the scenes when he got enlightened, and when the King of the country threatened to take his life. Watch it here:
